SCHOOL INFORMATION:
Founded in 1955, the American Cooperative School of La Paz as a non-denominational, non-profit Corporation School. It was organized by parents as a Calvert System school to provide an education in English for their children. In 1960, the school was moved to its present site when the beautiful “Casa del Sol” was purchased. The site of the old Patiño estate and the new American Cooperative School furnished enough land so that the school could expand to include (as or 1974) a primary, an elementary, and a high school wing, an auditorium, an athletic field with showers and locker rooms, and a science lab. The multi-national student body expanded from a student body of 36 students in 1955 to over 500 students in 1974. There were more than 20 nationalities represented in the student body. Of these, 50% were Americans, 30% were Bolivians and 20% were various other nationalities.
